Team Lead (Ranger)

Institutional Training


Initiates and coordinates National Guard Military School (NGMS) Ranger training programs to support the SANG Training Base in Ranger doctrinal material and the NGMS Ranger Program of Instruction (POI).   Performs as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) on training the Ranger POI by being professionally skilled in Ranger training and the systems approach to training process.

A. Duties/Responsibilities:

  1. Provides subject matter expertise to all aspects of the NGMS Ranger Training POI.
  2. Provides institutional training assistance to the NGMS Ranger Training Program.  Assists OPM and NGMS Officers/NCOs with the implementation phase of Ranger training.
  3. Assists in revising Ranger POIs for NGMS POI in support of Ranger training to enhance training capabilities as directed and prioritized by OPM and NGMS.  
  4. Performs duties under the direction of the Chief, Special Training Section (STS).  Accomplishes responsibilities independently within specialty area IAW established objectives, policies and procedures.
  5. Performs other mission-related tasks as required.
  6. Assists Chief, STS as required.
  7. Conduct Train-the-Trainer (T3) Courses.

B. Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervises (7) Ranger Trainers, (7) Saudi Interpreter Translators.


A. Education Level: Some College preferred; Graduate of Non-commissioned Officer Basic Course, Basic Officer course, or civilian equivalent preferred.


B. Experience: Former officer or non-commissioned officer with at least five years’ experience in U.S. military training methods of instruction and 2-4 years experience in a Squad Leader through Platoon leadership position in a combat unit.


C. Must be Ranger qualified. Served as a Ranger Instructor at the U.S. Army Ranger School preferred. Served as an instructor or undergone extensive training in Mountain Operations, Amphibious Small Boat Operations or Advanced Urban Warfare and Breaching Operations preferred. Operational experience in a Special Operations unit desired.


D. Specific Knowledge: Skill and Ability Requirements: Must have a thorough knowledge of U.S. Military Ranger Operations.  Must have knowledge of and experience with the Systems Approach to Training and basic U.S. Army training methodologies.  Professional training experience in a multi-cultural environment is desired.
