  • Chief Supervisor, Range Operations and Maintenance (KAA)

  • Overview

    Plans, directs, coordinates and manages the assistance and training to National Guard counterparts on the operation, safety, security, and maintenance of the KAA range complex.  Supervises subordinate range operations and maintenance personnel.  Serves as the central point of contact for all KAA range operations and maintenance matters.

    A. Duties/responsibilities:

    1. Supervises subordinate KAA range personnel with specialties in maintenance, safety, and security.
    2. Coordinates KAA range operations/maintenance-related activities between MNG, OPM, and Contractor elements.
    3. Acts under the general supervision of the Chief, MROMS; performs to a large extent under own responsibility with some choice of methods.
    4. Supervises all KAA related operations to include planning, safety, security, and maintenance.
    5. Provides assistance to the Range Officer and Staff of the KAA Range Complex in the conduct of studies pertaining to range improvement, operations, and range utilization.
    6. Responsible for the overall direction and supervision of the maintenance and operations functions required to support the KAA Range Complex.
    7. Performs other mission-related functions and duties as required.

    B. Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervises all subordinate personnel assigned to the KAA Range Complex.


    A. Education Level: High School Degree required. Associates degree preferred. Noncommissioned Officer Senior Leaders Course graduate. Armor or Infantry Master Gunner Course graduate preferred. E-7 to E-9 required.


    B. Experience: A minimum of seven (7) years’ experience in Field Artillery, LAV/Bradley/Tank, Air Defense Artillery, or Mortar gunnery.  Experienced in the construction of safety fans for direct and indirect fire weapons. Former commissioned officer or senior noncommissioned officer. Master Gunner preferred. An equivalent combination of college level courses, military training and job site experience may be substituted.


    C. Specific knowledge, skill, ability, and requirements: Knowledge of policies principles and procedures in the operation and maintenance of a firing range complex.  Detailed knowledge of capabilities of a variety of military weapons systems.  Detailed knowledge of all aspects of range safety.  Knowledge of supervisory principles and techniques.  Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.  Ability to deal effectively with people.  Must be computer literate and skilled in the use of Microsoft Office programs
